As 2010 begins, interior design trends are mirroring, not only fashion and other design trends, but the way of the world. Larger global trends are being reflected in the interior design trends that inform the design themes and design styles that are popular today.

Global Focus
 

Everywhere these days we see an increased focus on our global world. In interior design trends, there is a merging of multicultural designs, with a specific focus on China, Russia, Morocco, Latin America, and India. For instance, there is currently a re-emergence of Asian styles that in past years had fallen out of favour. Eastern and Indian ethnic patterns are being used in small doses, woven into more classic design styles without looking too trendy. We also see an emergence of color schemes that embody the rich, earthy colors associated with African and native cultures.

This is music to the ears of Vast's chief buyer and product developer Halena Sharp, who spent last year designing and sourcing a 2010 textile and homewares collection that that were chosen because of their heritage, beauty and cultural history. This years collection now arriving in stores is rich in tribal influenced statement pieces, delicately etched Indian palace inspired feature mirrors and hand woven worldly textiles.

Finally, there is a greater move toward the eclectic, where people are not always following one style but mixing and matching according to personal taste. We also see this trend reflected in furniture designs reinterpreting the past, resulting in traditional pieces with a modern twist.  Vast's new designer Nusa Living range is also the perfect example of these global traditions and techniques being re-fashioned for twenty ten living.
