China Bound
So this year I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Vast buying team on their annual trip to China seeking out the next range of 'wow' pieces to enter our stores.
Being immersed in all things beautiful is what I experienced each
day of my trip, From the beautiful blown glass vases to the edgy
metal wall art and the Chinese culture in general. 'A feast for the
senses' is how I would best describe my China experience.
I entered China with little to no understanding of how to speak any Chinese, now this made for a few interesting encounters. Let's just say that when your boss has to ask "is that chicken"? by flapping his wings, I am not going to have much hope!
Trying to explain "I need to use the toilet" by a 'squatting motion' is also a highlight!
One thing I will not forget in a hurry is the drive in and back
from the Canton Furniture Fair. I shall paint you a picture…
Cramming onto the bus with people of all nationalities all wanting'
just to get there already 'and we are all waiting on that one
person who has slept past their alarm! Grrr… Not good when you have
an hour forty drive with no toilet stops! A cold Tsingtao (Chinese
beer) at the end of each day makes it all better.
Most day's end with a good old foot massage, and start again with an extra strong coffee to fuel a day of treasure hunting for some new Vast designs.
Being surrounded by fun and inspiring people made my experience all the more enjoyable and memorable!
