Care Instructions for Our Signature Dining Range
Our specialty is solid timber furniture. It's a dying art these days to hand craft furniture from solid timber, it must be correctly dried (but not too dry), correctly assembled (most Vast pieces are constructed to allow for a 5% variance in expansion / contraction) and correctly finished to prolong wear and enhance the timber's grain. We do our best to ensure your furniture will turn into an heirloom, but you need to respect your purchase and take care of a few things along the way.
STABILISE YOUR ROOMS HUMIDITY
One of the reasons that 200 year old antiques survive so well is that for the first 175 years none of their owners' homes had central heating. Please don't locate your furniture next to a fireplace, in direct sunlight or over a heating vent etc. as this will dry all the moisture from your piece and cracking may occur. Any major extremes in temperature and humidity can wreak havoc on even the best constructed solid timber piece. In some cases you may wish to purchase a room de-humidifier, or even leaving an open bowl of water in the room to keep moisture in the air... it's all about finding equilibrium!
MIND THE SOLVENTS
Our heat and moisture-resistant finishes do not require additional polishing so there is no need to use ANY polishes. However, if you do decide to use a polish make sure that it does not contain silicone or concentrated chemical solvents as these can damage and wear away the original protective lacquers. A furniture wax may be suitable for some of our more rustic pieces, but generally a soft wash with water, mild suds and an old T'shirt will remove any marks and dry immediately afterwards (be sure to test on an unseen section to ensure it doesn't damage the finish).
That's about it really. Obviously only use it for it's intended
purpose (legally we have to say that... but we know our customers
are on to it). Keep away the nail polish remover and the super
heated coffee cups... and most importantly invite all your friends
around and let them see how classy you have become.
